Thanks to everyone.

I love that despite our differences, we can discuss things like civil human beings instead of resorting to other ways. This is a great community to be a part of, may it continue to grow.

Sorry, joined a Minivan forum in hopes of getting more info on my swap as I know others have done it. Turned into getting into a pissing match with 2 of the moderators, who happen to know very little as it turns out. Pssst, they don’t like to be called out on their lack of knowledge.

So thanks everyone. Your help and support means a lot.

If they end up booting me I will. As it stands now, I’d rather not post it, I am still able to comment and helping other people on the forum.

That’s crazy!

I’ve noticed this on forums too. The E46 forum was one of the best I’ve seen for mechanical and maintenance topics . The E90 forum was more about small cosmetic mods. And the Rennlist 997 page is obsessed with repainting old buttons.

Oppo is really unique in how good of a community we are. It really puts into perspective how awful other internet communities can be.

Ever been in an early 997? Their interiors are full of what seems like cheap plastic. The couple of 997s I’ve driven had pretty terrible interiors, with scratches all over the plastic. All is forgiven because they drive fantastically.

There is nothing better than knowing more than the experts, especially when they try to tell you what’s what. I have been arguing with the dealership and it is clear to me that the guys with the power to m ake the decisions have no idea what they are talking about, or the product they are selling. It’s extremely frustrating. The service writer told me yesterday it was silly of me to want something fixed (a module that allows the car to talk to my phone) because I couldn’t use the features anyway due to the year of the car. This was as incorrect as it could have been. He didn’t even back pedal when I showed him the app which logs use. The call to Volvo US came after they told me it would be $100 for an oil change (both in person and on their site) and it was $125. The brake flush was supposed to be $145 but it was actually $171. The price difference added up to $50.74 which was oddly very close to the value of the $50 coupon I used.

The long and the short of it is that I hate people.

I noticed a similar issue with a couple of Silverado/Sierra forums. The mods seemed to be grumpy old men that didn’t know anything but stayed logged in enough to see everything that was posted.

I occasionally still pop in to see whether anything useful is posted, but I rarely actually post.

I think we’re all just enablers for each other’s weird automotive habits and tastes and if we start judging one person’s goals it quickly opens up the “Judge not lest ye be judged” clause of the social contract.

Oh sure, I *could* make fun of your rally van......but I’ve got a 1985 Fi ero with the 2.5 Iron Duke I’ve fallen in love with and that’s never really solid ground to stand on.

Ugh - sorry you had a bad experience elsewhere. It’s too bad, because sites like that should be a better place to get very specific info on your project.

As others have noted, make -specific boards are very hit or miss. Mostly miss from my experience. The ones I’ve found are either very dead, or full of people who know a lot less than they think they know, and are aggressive about it.

Maybe there is a better board for minivans our there. Good luck!

Reminds me of some interactions with experts-via-wikipedia “editors” on the FP. Funny how much better a community can be when such types are absent.

Fortunately, the couple of MB forums I check once in a blue moon seem mostly to be civil, filled with DIY engineer types who just want to fix it or help someone avoid a catastrophic bill.

No, see, it's ok for Porsche to have a shitty interior in a 6-figure car because reasons. But god forbid Ford, Chevy, or Dodge have a shitty interior in their sports cars. BURN THEM AT THE STAKE.

There is hope.

Someday, we’ll either destroy ourselves with nuclear hellfire or be replaced with a more evolved hominid.

I think Oppo is the very best little corner on the internet. I’ve never experienced another place where everyone actually is excellent to each other. The closest car forum I’ve seen to that ideal was g1teg.org circa 2003ish, and even then it was really a silo of folks playing with 86-89 integras . I don’t know that it would’ve remained truly excellent to each other had there been an actual diversity of opinions or interests.

We’ll see where things go. If I get booted for calling the “mods” on their lack of knowledge, I will definitely make a post about it.

I can see it now: “Yes, it is quicker than a base 911, yes it has a higher top speed, too. The handling is as good as far costlier competitors.  It even costs $35k less, but the C8 Corvette has a trim piece on the door that feels just a bit flimsy. 4/10, do not recommend.”

Ugh, that sucks. One of the other places I’ve been on and off over the years is a forum for Correct Craft boats, mostly focused on the older ones. There are a few VERY active members there who have opinions about everything. But man, if you need a problem solved with your boat, and you’re willing to listen and be methodical, there is NOTHING they can’t solve. People join that forum with little-to -no knowledge of boats having bought a complete wreck off craigslist , and by the end they’ve totally restored it to perfection. I am not exaggerating.

Forums are, and will continue to be bad. Unfortunately it’s often the only place you can go to get info on a niche vehicle or specific project.

The rangerovers.net forums are pretty bad. Very lightly traffic’ d and not a lot of knowledge.

TurboDodge forum has always been quite good, with plenty of knowledgeable people to answer questions, but it has all but dried up over the last year.

Dodgeforum is ok, but tends to be more “maintenance/issue” based than anything. I’m one of the few members with actual modifying experience.

This forum is a minivan specific forum, so I was expecting some good help, but apparently the mods don’t like people modifying their vehicles, so it may be a hard go.

I love commenting and talking on here. The missus calls you all my “internet friends”. Forums lately have yielded little progress with questions or advice on anything I’ve inquired on. Whether it be TC related or Ruckus related.

The Ruckus Facebook groups are BAD. Asking anything gets sarcastic responses, or “This was posted years ago, look it up”. Luckily, I befriended one of the smartest Ruckus guys in Detroit, and solely talk to him on shop.

When inquiring on exhaust work for the TC, everyone’s response was along the line of , “Don’t make it louder, vans aren’ t suppose to make that noise”
